Footage shows the building in Manchester has partially collapsed.

A derelict building in Manchester city centre has partially collapsed following a scaffolding failure during demolition work.

Firefighters attended the scene of the incident, which happened shortly after 2:50pm on Friday, 24 October.

Nobody is reported to have been injured.

Alberton House, an empty building on St Mary’s Parsonage, located off Bridge Street, is scheduled for demolition.

Some buildings in the area have been evacuated, with one person who works nearby describing a “strong earthquake like feeling” when the structure collapsed.

Another witness added: “We were shaking and we didn’t know if the building was coming down, then we saw the plumes of dust.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) say one fire engine from Manchester Central attended the scene after scaffolding on a building being demolished partially collapsed.

The spokesperson said nobody was injured in the incident and crews are now “leaving this with building control”.

Manchester City Council say building control will be attending the site.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been approached for comment.
