Tralee the big winner in the 2025 Tidy Towns Awards; see how Kerry fared in this year’s competition

Tralee Tidy Towns were very much the biggest winners when it comes to Kerry groups at this year’s awards as they were named as winners of the Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre 2025 – An Lárionad Uirbeach Mór is Slachtmhaire in Éirinn 2025 category.
The group picked up a whopping 399 marks in this section and will take home a €5,000 cash prize for their efforts.
Martha Farrell from Tralee Tidy Towns was understandably delighted when she spoke to The Kerryman on Friday afternoon after the results were announced:
“We’re really over the moon. We are in the top four in the country, and when you think that there’s something like 929 entries, and for us to be in the top four, it’s amazing. There’s been phenomenal work done by volunteers and stakeholders in the county over the past few years, but we honestly never expected this.”
“It’s a lucky number 13 for us this year, too. This is our 13th gold medal in a row, so it’s absolutely fantastic. We want to keep the momentum going now and drive on and really improve Tralee. That’s our ultimate aim with Tralee Tidy Towns,” she said.
Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’Brien also expressed his delight with the awards:
“Tralee has been deservingly rewarded today for the fantastic work of the Tidy Towns group that goes on every day and all around us. I wish to congratulate them along with all the Tidy Towns groups around the entire county in achieving standards of excellence for their collective displays of community spirit and pride in their villages and towns.”
The good news didn’t stop there for the Tralee group. They were also named as winners of the Circular Economy Award with a prize of €500. They also finished runner-up in the Town Centre First Award category, getting €1,500.
There was great news too for other hard-working local groups, such as the Castlegregory Tidy Towns, who won the ‘Leave No Trace’ award, picking up €1,000 in the process. The group also won in the village/small town category in the ‘Climate Action Awards’ section, taking home another €2,000 on top of everything.
The West Kerry group was also named as one of the regional winners in the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan – Local Authority Pollinator Award section. As a result, the group won another €1,000.
In the ‘Water and Communities’ award section, Portmagee Tidy Towns were one of four regional winners, bagging €1,000 as a result. Sneem Tidy Towns meanwhile, won the Gardening for Bats Design Space award and won €1,000 as a result.
Finally, Kenmare Tidy Towns won €2,000 and were national winners in the SuperValu Inclusive Communities award.
