Aldershot Town have announced the appointment of John Coleman as their new first-team manager.
The former Accrington Stanley boss arrives at the EBB Stadium with more than 25 years of managerial experience, having also led Rochdale and Gillingham, and most recently managed Irish side Waterford.
Coleman will officially take charge next week, with Alan Dowson remaining in the dugout for this weekend’s fixture against Scunthorpe United.
The 63-year-old succeeds Tommy Widdrington, who led the Shots to Isuzu FA Trophy glory last season but resigned just 14 games into the new campaign, with the National League side sitting 19th in the table.

“It has not been easy and they have acted with true professionalism throughout.
“Alan and his team will lead The Shots out this weekend, and the Club are right behind them. We look forward to continuing to work with them.”
On the appointment of Coleman, Shahid added: “We are really excited to welcome John to the EBB Stadium.
“His experience at non-league and above and what he has given to the game is nothing short of remarkable.”
The club confirmed that his first interview as manager of Aldershot, and any further announcements, will take place next week.
