Apple TV sci-fi drama ‘Pluribus’ is a ‘Better Call Saul’ reunion. See the uneasy trailer

The trailer for “Pluribus” may only be two minutes, but it wastes no time revealing an unsettling world hell-bent on making Rhea Seehorn happy.

The sci-fi series, set to debut on Apple TV on Nov. 7, is a reunion for “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan and Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler in Gilligan’s “Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul.” She plays Carol, described as the “most miserable person on Earth” who “must save the world from happiness.”

By the trailer, “Pluribus” seems to lean into the Emmy Award winner’s trademark cinematic shots and stylistic love for the desert West aesthetic. The series will also star Carlos Manuel Vesga (“The Hijacking of Flight 601”), Karolina Wydra, Miriam Shor (“American Fiction”) and Samba Schutte.

In the trailer, Carol appears to be the only person in the world not under what seems to be some sort of happiness illusion. Everyone she comes into contact with is chipper, trying to get to the bottom of why she isn’t happy and offering to do whatever possible to get her there. At one point, she is called by what appears to be the president of the United States (Peter Bergman) who, through her TV screen, vows to “figure out what makes you different” so “you can join us.”

Even a DHL employee promises to do whatever he can to turn her spirits up, with Carol’s requests for a hand grenade, bazooka and tank getting an upbeat “Oh, sure!”

The nine-episode series will kick off with two episodes Nov. 7, with new episodes airing Fridays through Dec. 26 on Apple TV, which picked up two seasons of “Pluribus.”
