Blue Jays face high hopes, pressure as they take on Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series

It’s a righty-heavy lineup tonight

Less than 45 minutes to go. Some new faces will be in the Blue Jays lineup for Game 1 against the Dodgers’ left-handed starter Blake Snell.

Bo Bichette makes his return, playing second base for the first time in his MLB career.

Left fielder Davis Schneider, who didn’t get a single ALCS start against a Mariners rotation featuring all righties, will bat second. Same goes for Myles Straw, who will slot eighth in the batting order while patrolling right field.

In general, right-handed batters have more success against left-handed pitchers, and vice versa. This Game 1 lineup represents Toronto’s typical approach against lefties — especially ones as effective as Snell.

The switch-up pushes lefties Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes to the bench, along with righty Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Still, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of them make a late impact in this game if manager John Schneider puts them in.
