Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma equalled Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid’s 13-year-old record when they took the field in the third and final ODI of the series against Australia in Sydney on Saturday (October 25). The former Indian captains are now only active in ODI cricket and they are playing their last game in Australia. India aren’t scheduled to make another trip to the continent for an ODI at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Virat and Rohit etched their name in history books when they took the field in Sydney and now share the top spot of an elite list with the ICC Hall of Famers. Sachin and Dravid played international cricket together for 16 years.

What record have Virat and Rohit equalled?

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma now sit at the top in the list of Indian pairs to play the most international matches together. They are playing their 391st match together. They share the numero uno position with Sachin and Dravid.

Rohit made his India debut in 2007 while Virat donned the national cap for the first time in 2008. Rohit was part of the final XI on Virat’s ODI debut. They played all three formats together till 2024. Both Indian legends retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 World Cup.

Indian players to play most matches together

Sachin made his ODI debut in 1989. Dravid played his first game for India in 1996. The Master Blaster was part of the final XI on Dravid’s India debut. They played their final game together in 2012. Sachin (2006) and Dravid (2011) played a T20I each.

Dravid announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2011/12 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Sachin continued to play international cricket till November 2013.

Will Rohit and Virat retire together from ODIs?

Virat and Rohit retired from T20Is together. They also played their last Test series together (2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy). While nothing is confirmed, they would aim to play the 2027 ODI World Cup and end their international careers on a winning note.
