Netflix’s Theo James-Led ‘Peaky Blinders’ Replacement Lands a Huge Season 2 Update

The crime-driven shenanigans of the Halstead family are one step closer to arriving back on your screen. According to What’s on Netflix, cameras are officially done rolling for the second season of Netflix’s series The Gentlemen from creator Guy Ritchie. With production beginning last spring, the news is a terrific step forward for the series, which is expected to return with a fresh batch of episodes in the new year. Starring Theo James, the first season of the crime action comedy was a massively successful one for the streamer, having taken Ritchie’s beloved 2019 feature-length production and broke it down into a string of episodic installments.
Thanks to a previous report, we already have a good idea of how the sophomore season will shape up, using a time jump to bridge the gap between where we left the leading characters following the Season 1 finale. When we pick up with James’ Eddie and Kaya Scodelario’s Susie, they’ll be working alongside one another to ensure that Bobby’s (Ray Winstone) business will continue its upwards trajectory, with the official synopsis reading:
“It’s been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…”
From the description, it sounds like the team fully plans to up the ante and deliver more of the drama and tumultuous personal relationships that made the first season such a hit to begin with. This sentiment was further doubled down on when, earlier this year, James said the second season would be “bigger and darker” than the one that came before it, teasing,
“I really wanted to — and so did [creator] Guy [Ritchie] — make sure that we evolve the show, and that is the intention. As fun as the first season was, if you do the exact same thing again, it may not be as fun, essentially.”
Another Guy Ritchie-Backed Crime Drama Will Also Return Soon
In addition to The Gentlemen, fans of Ritchie have another second chapter to look forward to thanks to the renewal of Paramount+s MobLand. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren, the first season took audiences by storm when it arrived earlier this year, with the streamer quickly giving the title a greenlight to commence work on Season 2. The latest update we received surrounding the continuation was back in September from star Joanne Froggatt, who revealed production was slated to begin in late October.
