Freeze warning grips Northeast Ohio as temperatures drop

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A freeze warning was in effect early Saturday across much of Northeast Ohio as temperatures dipped to near 30 degrees, marking one of the season’s first widespread freezes, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

NWS said sub-freezing temperatures could last through 9 a.m. Saturday, potentially damaging or killing unprotected crops and other sensitive vegetation. Outdoor plumbing and irrigation systems may also be at risk.

The warning included Avon Lake, Brunswick, Lorain, Medina, Sandusky and more. Residents were urged to cover plants, bring potted flowers indoors and disconnect garden hoses to prevent freezing damage.

A look at what’s to come the rest of the weekend:

A slight chance of showers continues through Saturday and into Sunday morning, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the low 40s. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy before gradually clearing Sunday afternoon. Patchy frost is expected Sunday night with temperatures dropping into the mid-30s.
