U’s boss considering tactical changes ahead of County trip

Head coach Neil Harris has admitted that he is considering ‘changing shape’ in a bid to end Cambridge United’s travel woes.
While the U’s currently hold the best home record in League Two, it has been a very different story on the road.
Cambridge have won just once away in the league this term, with their return of five points only better than three other teams in the division.

And ahead of this weekend’s trip to Notts County, Harris has conceded that he may look to make some tactical alterations.
“Thinking about options for me is changing shape, going to a back five etc – things like that. They have to be options for me now going into away games,” he said.
“I’ve got to think about personnel and players that make good combinations and make us harder to beat, but we’ve also got to be an attacking threat as well.
“There’s a lot of thoughts go through my mind when we’re searching for the right formula away from home – and they’re all things I have to consider.”
Saturday’s hosts County, who are one place above Cambridge in eighth on goal difference, have won their last four league matches at Meadow Lane.
Harris added: “We’ve had some tough away games and this is going to be another one.
“They’re a team that aren’t consistent in having the same manager for a period, but they’ve had the same style of play and they’re a product of what the club wants to be for a period of time.
“It’s going to be a different game – they want to dominate the ball. In whatever shape I play, we’re going to have to be organised and disciplined and find ways to hurt the opponent. Some games we’ve done that, but have we done it over 90 minutes? I think that’s what we’re striving for.
“They’re a threat and they’ve got attacking players – nines and 10s – that are really good with the ball. They’ve got wing-backs that like to get forward, so we have to be mindful they’ve got good attacking players and they’ve had a good attacking output.
“We know what we’re going to face and we’ll have a plan for it. We have to make sure we’re good in both boxes and then when thinking about the defensive side of it, we’ve got to make sure we’ve got attacking output as well.
“Notts County are a really good all round team and we have to make sure we match them in every aspect.”
Harris also confirmed that he has no fresh injury concerns for the weekend, with Louie Appere (hamstring) and Shane McLoughlin (calf) the only confirmed absentees.
