Canadiens’ Patrik Laine out several months after core muscle surgery

It marks the latest in a string of injuries and absences for Laine, who has not played more than 56 games since the 2019-20 season when he was still with the Winnipeg Jets.
Laine was limited to 52 games in his first season with the Canadiens in 2024-25 after suffering a knee injury during the pre-season.
He entered the current campaign healthy, but he has not played since Oct. 16 while being listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury that required a second opinion.
In five games, the 27-year-old Laine had one assist and was yet to score. The Finnish winger potted 20 goals with the Habs last season to go with 13 assists.
The Canadiens (6-3-0) return to the ice Saturday when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Hockey Night in Canada (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, Sportsnet, Sportsnet+.)
