Matt Hardy Confirms Broken Rules Match Will Not Be A Cinematic Match

Following a dramatic vignette that saw Matt and Jeff Hardy return to the Lake of Reincarnation, the “Broken Hardys” are set to make their official WWE debut as a tandem. The pair will face Dark State at NXT Halloween Havoc in a “Broken Rules Match,” and Matt Hardy has clarified exactly what fans can expect from the bout.

Speaking on his podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” Hardy was asked by co-host Jon Alba to define the match stipulation.

“A broken rules match is basically a match with no rules,” Hardy explained. “Where anything goes, anything can be used. You can fight all over the building and the venue. The standard rules of a pro wrestling match typically are broken.”

Not a Cinematic Match

Given the “Broken” universe’s history with cinematic-style bouts like “The Final Deletion,” many fans speculated the Halloween Havoc match might take place at the Hardy Compound. Hardy quickly shut down that speculation, confirming the match will be a live, in-arena contest.

When asked if this would be a cinematic match, Hardy was definitive. “This is a real match,” he stated. “We’re going to see in the… it’s going to be a real match in the arena. Yes.”

He drove the point home, adding, “We will be in Arizona, and we will be going nuts.” This marks a significant moment, as it is the first time the “Broken Hardys” moniker has been officially used for the team in WWE, eight years after their 2017 return.

NXT Halloween Havoc will be taking place on October 25, 2025 from the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, AZ. on Peacock.
