Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley preview

Joseph Parker is a former world champion and veteran of 39 professional contests, but the 33-year-old has been better than ever in his most recent contests.

The New Zealander has recorded excellent victories over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole in his last three bouts, successfully negotiating a path past those powerful heavyweights.

Of course, there are three defeats on the 33-year-old’s card, but those have come against top-drawer fighters Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte and Joe Joyce, and Parker has improved hugely since his most recent loss in 2022.

A peak Joshua, Whyte or Joyce would be fancied to take care of Wardley, and while the Ipswich man is a dangerous fighter, his record may overstate his ability.

The unbeaten 30-year-old was completely outclassed and dominated by Justis Huni in June, before landing a huge knockout shot in the tenth round to stop the New Zealand puncher.

However, that performance exposed Wardley’s limitations, and if Parker was able to stay out of the way of the power of Wilder and Zhang, the 33-year-old has to be fancied to dodge the efforts of the Suffolk slugger.

Parker has the far stronger record, rates the more skilled and technically sound fighter and could well be a little shorter than the 3-10 on offer on Saturday night.

Wardley is an easy target to hit, as was shown in the contest with Huni. He shows little head movement or defence and Parker looks a bet to deliver a stoppage success.
