The elite record that Alejandro Kirk shares with Shohei Ohtani

Mexican talent will shine once again on baseball’s biggest stage. Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk has been named one of the 10 best hitters for the 2025 World Series, according to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball.

The Tijuana-born player shares the ranking with stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who holds the second spot. Kirk, ranked seventh, is the only Mexican player participating in this year’s World Series and one of five Blue Jays recognized by the league.

MLB’s ranking notes that Kirk “has been a key piece in Toronto’s lineup throughout the season,” emphasizing his ability to make consistent contact and his exceptional plate discipline. According to the analysis, the Tijuana native ranks in the 83rd percentile for lowest swing-and-miss percentage and in the 95th percentile for lowest strikeout rate, underscoring the strength and consistency of his offensive approach.

Signed by Toronto in 2016 for just $30,000, the Blue Jays were the only organization willing to take a chance on him. Since then, Kirk has worked his way up to become a two-time All-Star and has secured his future with a five-year contract extension, establishing himself as one of the most complete catchers in the American League.

During the current postseason, Kirk is batting .222 with three home runs and seven RBIs, including several key hits, such as the double in Game 5 of the AL Championship Series against Seattle that sparked Toronto’s comeback.

At 26 years old, Alejandro Kirk is making his first World Series appearance, becoming the 21st Mexican player to compete in the Fall Classic. If the Blue Jays manage to defeat the Dodgers, he would join an elite list of Mexican MLB champions, including Fernando Valenzuela, Sergio Romo, Julio Urías, and José Urquidy.

Beyond his numbers, Kirk has been the emotional anchor of a team that blends youth and experience. His work behind the plate has been vital to the success of rookie Trey Yesavage and a bullpen that has kept the team in close games throughout the postseason.

Kirk’s recognition comes as the Blue Jays showcase one of the most potent offenses in baseball. According to MLB.com, Toronto ranked fourth in runs scored and third in OPS during the regular season. In the postseason, the team is batting .296/.355/.523, historic figures for the franchise.
