The Vancouver Canucks have been on a successful five-game road trip that saw the team make a pitstop in Washington, D.C. over the weekend.
Despite pulling out a hearty win over the Capitals, it was what happened off the ice that got the attention of fans.
Forward Evander Kane posted a couple of stories to his Instagram account — both with FBI Director Kash Patel.

Vancouver-born Kane boasted dining with the controversial figure on Saturday.
“Great dinner and even better company,” Kane wrote on the caption.
After a 4-3 win Sunday, he took another snap in front of a Canucks backdrop while Patel held a Kane jersey and alongside forward Conor Garland.
That caption for that image read, “Just a bunch of hockey guys.”

His posts haven’t gone over well with Canucks fans on social media.

Some took to X, formerly Twitter, others took to a long Reddit thread, expressing contention over the NHLer hanging out a U.S. President Donald Trump loyalist after the White House has repeatedly leveled threats of annexing Canada by naming us the “51st state,” and started a trade war that has hurt businesses across the country.
“It irritates me so much that Patel is in front of a Canucks logo,” wrote user ryan8954.
“Kind of wild that Canucks lets them pose in front of their logo and all that,” said user DisgruntledCatGuy.
“Brutal. I don’t give a s*** how awful your opinions are as long as you keep them to yourself. Seeing that *** in front of our Vancouver logo shouldn’t be allowed to fly,” said Reddit user resocks.
“Why? Why would the Canucks PR allow this? Are they completely inept? These two are standing with the head of investigations for the US government who want to annex us and are attempting to cripple us economically,” said user Financial_Ad_60.
Patel is a hockey fan, having appeared at other Washington Capitals games alongside Wayne Gretzky — a move that left many Canadians upset.
Kane, who was once part of the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA) was a controversial signing for the Canucks.
In 2016, he faced an assault allegation in a hotel room that was settled out of court. During a divorce from his ex-wife, he was accused of sexual assault and domestic violence but that rejected by the court and Kane got custody of their child.
In 2021, Kane filed for bankruptcy amid increasing gambling debts.
That same year, Kane was suspended 21 games for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card and breaching the NHL/NHLPA’s COVID protocols.
