NFL trade deadline: Steelers’ reported trade plans may disappoint fans, per Gerry Dulac

Just weeks away from the NFL trade deadline, rumors and speculation have been running rampant throughout the Steel City — but one prominent insider just threw cold water on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ plans.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh is highly unlikely to target any trade candidates on the defensive side of the ball — despite their struggles to start the season.
“I think they have the guys that, barring an injury, I think they feel they have the guys they want to go with,” Dulac said via The Randy Baumann and the DVE Morning Show. “They have their two young linemen, they like the guys in the secondary. They brought in so many guys, they revamped that entire secondary. They’re not gonna change it just based on one game. They’ll just change what they do a little bit.”
After shooting down any defensive trade ideas ahead of the deadline, Dulac had some more bad news about any big-name wide receiver acquisitions.
“I think if you see them go get a wide receiver, it’s gonna be the equivalent of Mike Williams — what they did last year,” Dulac said. “If something would happen to DK Metcalf now, it’s a whole other ball game. I don’t know that they’re actively pursuing it, but I can tell you, they’re always looking.”
It’s safe to say most Steelers fans would agree that the Williams trade last season was one of the most disappointing in recent memory — catching just nine passes for 132 yards and one touchdown in nine games. And it’s this low-risk, low-reward type trade that is exactly the route Pittsburgh may take if Dulac’s assessment is accurate.
