Troy Deeney says Enzo Fernandez has a fantastic attribute that nobody ever speaks about

Enzo Fernandez did not have his best game during Chelsea’s defeat to Sunderland, however pundit Troy Deeney has claimed that there is one part of his game that is underrated.

The fact that the Argentine moved to Stamford Bridge for more than £100m was always going to be make it difficult for him to receive praise for what he does.

However, Micah Richards recently credited Fernandez for making a significant change to his game that has seen him add far more goals and assists to his arsenal.

Even in defeat against Sunderland, the World Cup winner created three chances for his teammates, whilst taking on four shots at goal, three of which being on target.

In a young squad that only seems to get younger under Enzo Maresca, the midfielder is now one of the players who boasts the most experience at the top level.

Deeney was speaking to TalkSPORT when he picked out his leadership skills as one of his top attributes, with it being a skill that is not often spoken about.

He said: “I think he’s been very good. His leadership was missed against Forest and that’s something that’s not really spoken about a great deal, but his leadership was missed, especially in this young team.”

Maresca has admitted that Fernandez has not been 100% fit of late, however he was still able to get on the scoresheet in the Champions League against Ajax in midweek.

Despite the armband at Stamford Bridge being firmly around Reece James’ arm, the responsibility to lead the side has fallen on the Argentina international.

He had the chance to score another penalty on Wednesday night, however with the Blues already in a commanding position he elected to give the ball to Estevao Willian for his first Champions League goal.

Estevao was full of praise for Fernandez for the gesture, and the Brazilian went on to enjoy a game where he looked a constant threat.

Maresca also loved the fact that the Brazil international had been handed the chance to get off the mark in Europe, especially after two seasons ago Chelsea fans had to watch Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke scrap for a spot kick against Everton.
