‘Absolute carnage’ as passengers ‘locked’ outside of Euston amid UK-wide disruption

There were scenes of ‘absolute carnage’ at Euston on Sunday night (October 19) with passengers reportedly locked outside amid UK-wide disruption.
Railway lines were been closed near to the major station due to an ongoing emergency incident. It’s understood someone had been struck by a train during the evening.
Services to Manchester Piccadilly among others to Preston, Liverpool and Birmingham were also significantly delayed, with National Rail warning of ‘major disruption’ and numerous trains stranded on the tracks.

Videos shared across social media showed huge crowds outside of the station, which appeared to have had its gates shut amid the incident.
“Euston Station in shut down chaos tonight. If you’re booked on or planning a trip out of Euston tonight, maybe go home and try again tomorrow,” one person posted on X.
Another wrote: “Every train from Euston cancelled. Football fans, NFL fans here. Station now closed because too many people Absolute carnage.”
“Euston Station is the worst, hottest pit of the deepest circle of hell,” posted a third.
The emergency services, including paramedics and British Transport Police were called to the scene of the incident between Watford Junction and London Euston, with all lines closed.

One person on board a train from Manchester Piccadilly was being held on the line near to Kings Langley for over an hour before a replacement bus was organised from Watford after a person was reportedly struck.
She said: “We were meant to get into Euston at 5:43pm, we got stopped at Kings Langsley at about 5:40pm.
“The conductor has done an announcement now saying he can confirm a train has struck a person and they don’t know how long we’ll be stuck for.”
An update by National Rail on Sunday evening said disruption was expected until the end of the day, with many services either cancelled or delayed by up to two hours.
It read: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Watford Junction and London Euston. So that they can safely carry out their work, all lines are closed.
“As a result, trains operating between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
Avanti West Coast services were impacted between Carlisle, Preston, Manchester Piccadilly , Liverpool Lime Street, Holyhead, Chester, Crewe, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street and London Euston
London Northwestern Railway services were also affected between St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction, and also between Crewe, Birmingham New Street, Coventry, Northampton, Milton Keynes Central, Bletchley and London Euston.
