Irish Netflix fans have days to watch Maggie Smith’s ‘transfixing’ final film set in Dublin

Admirers of the late Dame Maggie Smith have been pondering the beloved actress’s illustrious career following the recent arrival of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
Whilst her most recognised work includes the Harry Potter franchise and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, it’s her swan song performance that critics are describing as ‘masterful’.
The 2023 picture also features Laura Linney, Kathy Bates and Agnes O’Casey as four ladies who establish a musical ensemble and secure the reward of a spiritual journey to the holy destination of Lourdes in France.
Throughout their adventure, they encounter an emotional whirlwind.
The production, The Miracle Club, is currently available for viewing on Netflix, though it will shortly be departing the service, reports the Irish Mirror.

Netflix confirms the last opportunity to watch the picture is Monday, November 10.
The production received favourable critiques, with ScreenRant describing the picture as an “endearing, heartwarming dramedy” that “beautifully celebrates the idea that friendship and compassion can be healing”.
David Perin commented on Google Reviews: “Movies with all star casts are one thing. However, this ensemble is on an entirely different plane.
“The film is headlined by some of the premier actors of our time, and those who are less well known certainly hold their own with the major players.
“The performances of Laura Linney, Maggie Smith, and Kathy Bates are simply masterful, and although the trailer and the great cast drew me into watching the film, it was so much more than I expected.”

Smith’s performance has been widely applauded, with Rae H George commenting: “This was a sweet story filled with sadness and ultimately redemption for a group of multigenerational women in a small town in Ireland in the early sixties.
“Beautifully acted with restraint by Maggie Smith, Cathy Bates and Laura Linney.
“I always appreciate films that don’t feature any violence or bloodshed or gun battles.
“There was an authenticity to this story that I found very refreshing.”
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 66% of 113 critics’ reviews are positive.
The New Statesman described Smith’s final performance as “transfixingly wonderful”.
