Should Fantasy Football Owners Trade Javonte Williams For Cam Skattebo?

Running backs throughout fantasy football have provided owners with a plethora of notable performances through the first seven weeks of action. Entering Week 7, one back has emerged as a sought-after trade target in fantasy football: New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo.
The Giants back has managed a string of significant production since taking over as the offense’s starter. Following a quiet performance in New York’s season opener, Skattebo has managed at least 13.0 PPR points in each of his last six games, entering Week 8 as one of fantasy’s top running backs.
He is coming into Sunday’s game versus the Philadelphia Eagles ranked as RB8 among fantasy leagues, elevating his trade value. Given his consistent production, Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams’ fantasy owners could be considering a trade for the Giants back.
Williams has been solid in his own right. The Cowboys’ back is also one of the top backs in fantasy, but has seen his share of struggles, as demonstrated in a lowly 8.4-point outing versus the Carolina Panthers in Week 6.
But was his Week 6 outing a sign of things to come, or should fantasy owners hold on to Williams as the season progresses. Here’s our take on a potential Skattebo-Williams fantasy trade?

While both running backs offer immense upside, swapping the two backs is a lateral move in fantasy. Williams enters Week 8 ranked as RB6 in fantasy, two spots ahead of Skattebo in PPR rankings.
Williams opened the season with the most consistent high-end production of any running back in fantasy, managing top-15 finishes among his position group in four of Dallas’ first five games. While many feared his production would take a hit with the return of All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb, Williams flashed his consistency once more, racking up 18.8 PPR points and yet another top-10 weekly finish.
Both Williams and Skattebo offer incredibly similar fantasy production and volume and will likely each post top-12 finishes among all fantasy running backs, given their previous trends of output through the first seven weeks of the season.
In Week 8, both backs will face off against tough individual matchups, as Skattebo’s Giants will take on the Philadelphia Eagles, while Williams’ Cowboys will square off against the Denver Broncos. Each of these fantasy stars should continue strong respective strings of production this weekend.
