Canucks’ Hughes out vs. Oilers with lower-body injury

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes will not be available to the team on Sunday when they take on the Edmonton Oilers due to a lower-body injury, head coach Adam Foote confirmed to reporters.

Hughes, 26, skated 26:25 during the Canucks’ 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday where he recorded two assists with a plus-1 rating.

Foote says the injury occurred late in the game against the Canadiens.

The Canucks’ captain is tied for third among defencemen early in the season with a goal and seven points in nine games.

Hughes had 16 goals and 76 points in 68 games last season as the Canucks failed to make the playoffs.

Vancouver is on a three-game losing streak entering Sunday night’s action and sit in sixth place in the Pacific Division with a 4-5-0 record.

The Canucks will take on a familiar face in forward J.T. Miller and the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
