Henrico sees strong turnout on final day of early voting

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – With Election Day just around the corner, Virginians had their last opportunity to cast an early ballot on Saturday, and voters in Henrico County showed up in a big way.

The scene at the polls at the Western Government Center was bustling, with lines stretching and wrapping around as voters rallied to take advantage of their final chance to vote early ahead of the official Election Day.

“I was expecting it but hoping it wouldn’t be so long,” Brenda Gray, an early voter, said.

“Everybody’s trying to get the same ideas everybody else has, just to get it done,” another early voter, Avery Gray, said.

The growing lines and continuous stream of cars kept poll workers on their toes, as they diligently worked to ensure a smooth process.

“I’m going on a trip during the day of the election, the fourth. I wanted to get it done today while I have the chance,” Kevin Brann said.

Despite the significant crowds, many voters remained comitted to ensure their voices were heard and their votes counted.

“Being able to get it done today was very beneficial for me. Trying to get it done on the weekday didn’t work at all,” one voter said.

As the countdown to Election Day continues, Henrico General Registrar Mark J. Coakley offered advice for those who may have missed the registration deadline.

“Go to your neighborhood polling place and say look, I’m here to do a same day registration and vote a provisional ballot, and as long as you haven’t voted anywhere else, which we know you haven’t, that ballot is going to count,” Coakley said.

With early voting now wrapped up, those who have not yet cast their ballot must do so on Election Day.

For information on where to vote, individuals can visit the Department of Elections website and go to the Polling Place and Ballot Information tool, which provides details on polling locations and hours.
