Metrolinx expanding its GO Transit service Monday, adding new rush hour train trips

Heads up commuters: starting Monday, GO Transit is expanding its service, adding new train trips and officially opening a new station.

In an email statement, Metrolinx said it would be adding six new rush hour trips — three in the morning and three in the afternoon — on the Lakeshore East line.

One of the added morning trips will leave from Durham College Oshawa GO to Union Station, while the other two will leave from Whitby GO in the direction of Toronto’s downtown core.

The additional afternoon trips will leave from Union Station and head in the direction of Whitby GO, Metrolinx said.

The Stouffville line will also see two new rush hour trips.

One train will depart from Unionville GO at 7:59 a.m., making all station stops until its arrival at Union Station at 8:40 a.m. The second trip will depart from Union Station at 4:50 p.m. and arrive at Unionville GO by 5:31 p.m.

The Barrie line will see an added trip departing from Aurora GO at 7:20 a.m. and arriving at Union Station at 8:14 a.m. and another departing Union Station at 4:53 p.m. and arriving at Aurora GO at 5:46 p.m.

Weekend GO train trips between Kitchener and Toronto coming in November

Kitchener GO Train commuters will soon be able to travel to and from Toronto on weekends starting in November. As CBC’s JP Gallardo explains, many say this expansion is long overdue.

Finally, all trips southbound on the Richmond Hill line are set to depart up to seven minutes earlier, Metrolinx said.

The new Confederation GO station is also set to bring convenience to the Lakeshore West line, connecting Toronto’s downtown core to Hamilton.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath, several other local politicians and the CEO of Metrolinx announced at the end of September that construction on the station had been completed.

Monday’s grand opening means all existing weekday and weekend trips will now stop at Confederation GO.

Metrolinx is also extending seven select trips to and from West Harbour GO for the new station. Appleby GO customers will also see expansion on six select trips to and from Oakville GO.

As well, starting on Nov. 1, customers will be offered eight new trips to Niagara Falls GO on the weekends. Currently, there are only three trips per day, Metrolinx said.

The transit network said it is adjusting schedules on some transit lines to better reflect actual travel times and it recommends checking its website in advance of taking GO Transit.
