Regina police Chief Farooq Sheikh has been terminated with cause after Saskatchewan’s Public Complaints Commission completed its investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct.

The commission found that Sheikh had exchanged inappropriate private communications with a member of the Board of Police Commissioners regarding changes to his employment contract.

The board member, who filed a complaint against him earlier this year, was not named.

Sheikh was suspended with pay on April 4, after a public complaint was filed against him. The Regina Police Service and the complaints commission did not release details at the time, saying the matter would remain confidential until the investigation was complete.

Sheikh was appointed police chief on Dec. 1, 2023, after serving as the chief of the Alberta sheriffs.
