Escape to the Country buyer blown away by rare Alnwick home with insane features

Denise Nurse was helping Jim and Rachel find a new home in Northumberland in the latest episode of the BBC show.

Another couple have been looking for a home in Escape To The Country

Escape To The Country’s latest buyer said he had “never seen anything like this” as he toured an unusual property in Alnwick.

Jim and Rachel had travelled to Northumberland with the BBC One’s show’s expert Denise Nurse in a bid to find a new home with a garden, plenty of bedrooms for visiting relatives and an annex for Rachel’s mum.

They were blown away when Denise unveiled a “mystery house” – a stunning home with sea views, six bedrooms, a completely separate house on the grounds for Rachel’s mother and a curious hexagonal turret tower.

While it wasn’t known how old the tower was, it was shown on a map dating back to 1851.

“It’s such a brilliant house,” said Denise. “It’s so quirky. It’s the kind of house they could put their own thoughts and style all over.”

As she showed Jim and Rachel around, she pointed out the character features, the fact the house had so many windows and its spacious rooms. Its tower included a huge entryway, and was shaped like a hexagon.

“We don’t often get the hexagonal towers,” Denise explained.

The hexagonal rooms proved to be a highlight for the couple, who said they thought they were “incredible”.

“I love the shape, it’s really interesting, isn’t it?” said Rachel, as Denise agreed that the home was “completely unique”.

“I would say,” said Jim. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. I think this is quite a statement house isn’t it? Because it’s so different.”

Sharing his thoughts after the tour, Jim admitted it was “mind-boggling”.

Jim and Rachel were intrigued by the tower

“I’m so confused now,” he confessed. “It seems to be a mixture of all sorts of things, 1970s, French influences, the wood, but it would be a project for us, I think.”

The owners were looking for offers over £785,000 for the spacious property.

However, in the end, Jim said the house may be be “a project a bit too far for us” and the pair decided to pass on it. They told Denise that the houses she had shown them had made them realise that they were looking for something a little smaller.

Escape To The Country airs on BBC One.
