A Barstool Sports personality died unexpectedly over the weekend.
“Fore Play,” the company’s golf podcast, announced the death of Cody “Beef” Franke on Monday, saying he died from a sudden medical issue.
Franke joined the popular golf podcast at the end of 2024. A golf professional who touted himself as a “common instructor for the common golfer,” he had a strong social media following where he would post swing tips, golf trips, features and more.
“Cody truly loved the game of golf,” a statement said. “He selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game. Watching golf bring happiness to people, brought him happiness, and that infectious personality was felt by everyone who met him. He was universally known as the nicest guy in the world.”
“Cody made so many people laugh. He made so many people smile and he simply made so many people better. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Cody’s entire family and loved ones. We’ll be removing our hats for Cody today and every day. Rest in peace to the classiest man we knew.”
Tributes for Franke began to roll in after his death announcement, including from his Barstool colleagues and people around the golf world.
“Barstool lost a member of our family this weekend. Just tragic news. You will never find a nicer more genuine person than Beef,” Barstool founder Dave Portnoy wrote on X.
“It’s hard to even process it right now. Just another cruel reminder that tomorrow is never promised and to live each day to its fullest.”
