Williamson is a new addition to the Pelicans’ injury report with a foot issue. His status for tonight is up in the air, and given his injury history, there is a good chance that he could miss his first game of the season.

The two-time All-Star has been stellar through the first two games of the season, averaging  27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals in 35.2 minutes per contest.

On Friday, Williamson was incredible despite the loss, recording 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 37 minutes of action.

The Pelicans may need to search for their first win of the season without their best player. Boston may need to do the same, as their star wing, Jaylen Brown, is listed as questionable with a hamstring issue. Six-time All-Star power forward Jayson Tatum, of course, is out for most or possibly all of the year recovering from an Achilles tear.

Brown is coming off his best outing of the young season, recording 41 points in the Celtics’ loss to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.

Zion Williamson’s Ongoing Injury Struggles Continue To Define His Career

Injuries are undoubtedly nothing new for Williamson, as sitting out for multiple games has become a norm for him.

Williamson possesses undeniable superstar talent, but injuries have consistently derailed his path to reaching that ceiling. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft appeared to be turning the corner health-wise after a 70-game 2023-24 season, but his career so far has been riddled with setbacks.

He’s dealt with a torn meniscus, a fractured foot, multiple hamstring issues, and a left foot contusion. Out of a possible 474 games, Williamson has suited up for just 216 — roughly 45 percent — and has yet to make an appearance in the playoffs.

Last season, Williamson was held to 30 games but was incredible when he was available. In those games, he averaged 24.6 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 56.7 percent from the field in 28.6 minutes of action.

Williamson missed games last season due to a hamstring strain, low back contusion and other unspecified issues.
