UPDATE: Barku Plastics shooting suspect found dead after standoff, Cleveland Police confirm

UPDATE: The suspect in Monday morning’s shooting at Barku Plastics in Cleveland, which left two employees dead, has been found deceased inside a home, where he had barricaded himself, Cleveland Police Department Cpt. Evie West says.

West said law enforcement used two robotic devices to search the residence on Samples Chapel Road, where the man was found deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released, pending confirmation from the Bradley County Medical Examiner’s Office.

PREVIOUS STORY: Cleveland police say two people are dead and a SWAT standoff is underway after a shooting at an area plant on Monday.

It happened at Barku Plastics on Corporate Drive off Industrial Drive SW in Cleveland shortly after 10:20am.

Police say they arrived at the plant to find the bodies of two men, who were employees.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting but police say they were able to find the vehicle used at a home outside of city limits.

Police say a SWAT standoff started after the vehicle was found.

Cleveland Police Department’s Public Information Officer Evie West said law enforcement was taking every precaution while working to make contact with the suspect.

“We are conducting operations to make contact with the suspect, who we believe is barricaded inside his residence on Samples Chapel Road, so we are asking people to avoid the area,” West said. “We are taking every precaution possible to make sure this area is safe for residents nearby.”

West also confirmed that the victims were of German descent.

“Thankfully, we do have an officer, Marlon Nelson, who has helped me deliver the death notification to the families in Germany,” she said. “His role has been very vital for us to be able to share that death notification. It is a very traumatic thing.”

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the shooting.

“That’s what’s being said to us right now,” West added. “Of course, in order for us to put the pieces of the puzzle together, we are going to have to talk to several different people to find out more information on the suspect, the victims, and what was happening at the place of business.”

The names of the suspect and victims have not been released.

Law enforcement is asking the public to avoid the area around the plant until further notice.
