Zach Ertz becomes only the sixth tight end in NFL history with 800 career receptions

Former Eagles’ 2nd-round pick Zach Ertz joined Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Travis Kelce, Antonio Gates and Shannon Sharpe to become only the sixth tight end in NFL history with 800 career receptions

Back in 2021, the Eagles moved on from star tight end Zach Ertz, trading the former second-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round pick. The move was made as Dallas Goedert was ascending, and it was assumed that Ertz had lost a step.

Ertz exited Philadelphia with 579 receptions, 6,267 yards, 38 touchdowns, as well as the most catches by a tight end in a single season (2018). He’ll go down as one of the best players in franchise history, making a significant impact in Philadelphia.

Since then, Ertz logged 56 catches during the second half of the 2021 season, 47 receptions in 2022, 27 in 2023, and then 66 in 2024 during his first year with the Washington Commanders. Ertz has 23 catches for 229 yards and four touchdowns during this, his second season in Washington. Now, the 13-year veteran sits on the doorstep of history. With his two catches in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Chiefs, Ertz became the sixth tight end in NFL history with 800 career receptions, joining Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Travis Kelce, Antonio Gates, and Shannon Sharpe on the esteemed list.

It all but assures the former Stanford star will enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with only Witten (2026, first year of eligibility) on the list not yet enshrined.
