Penguins’ Crosby becomes ninth player to reach 1,700 points

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain became the ninth player in NHL history to reach 1,700 career points with an assist on Bryan Rust’s third-period goal against the St. Louis Blues on Monday. He received a standing ovation from the Penguins crowd after the milestone was announced.

The 38-year-old Crosby would then add a breakaway goal later in the third to help seal a 6-3 win for the Penguins.

Crosby now sits 22 points behind former Penguins teammate Mario Lemieux for eighth on the all-time points list.

In his 21st NHL season, the long-time Penguins captain has shown no signs of slowing down.

With another three points on Monday, Crosby now has seven goals and seven assists through 10 games.

His hot start has helped the Penguins get off to a 7-2-1 start this season.
