Daniels and Giddey highlight the Australian Boomers’ future in their Chicago vs. Atlanta NBA clash

The future of Australian basketball couldn’t have looked much brighter on Tuesday morning, with the Australian Boomers’ best two NBA players going head-to-head.

Dyson Daniels of the Atlanta Hawks and Josh Giddey of the Chicago Bulls found themselves matched up against each other on the court more often than not, in a display that could bring a tear to the face of Aussie fans.

Chicago had the last laugh in a 128–123 victory, highlighted by Giddey’s three-point dagger in the final minute, along with a victory-ensuring offensive rebound that all but locked in a Chicago win.

While Daniels struggled to find his shot on the offensive end throughout the night, it was unsurprisingly his defence that shone through.

‘The Great Barrier Thief’ was at it again, recording three first-half steals, including one on Giddey, and six rebounds for the game.

But where Daniels lacked offensively, Giddey more than made up for it as he yet again stuffed the stat sheet.

Giddey recorded 18 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists on 50% shooting.

It is this idea of Giddey’s offence, matched with Daniels’ defence, that will be a force to be reckoned with as a Boomers backcourt for years to come.

This guard pairing is especially exciting for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where both guards will be approaching their physical primes at 25 years old.

Giddey now extends his career winning tally over Daniels to eight wins and four losses.
