Utah Jazz Beat Phoenix Suns In Overtime Behind 50 Points From Lauri Markkanen

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz remain undefeated at home through two games, surviving overtime after a late Phoenix Suns comeback at Delta Center on Monday.

Lauri Markkanen was the hero for Utah, dropping a career-high 51 points. It was the first regular-season 50-point game for Utah this century. The last came from Karl Malone in 1998.

Walker Kessler and Keyonte George also played very well, both posting double-doubles. Kessler finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks. George posted 26 points and 10 assists.

The Utah Jazz will stay at home for their next game against the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday, October 29.

The @utahjazz have jumped out to a 16-2 lead as the @suns look lost on both ends of the floor.

Six minutes into this game, the Suns offensive rating is 54 and their defensive rating is 212.

So it’s not going well in Phoenix.

Now a no-dip three for the rookie. It might be time folks. https://t.co/CyBGjdCVZu

— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 28, 2025

That ball barely touched Ace Bailey’s hands before knocking down the three.

He never had to do that at Rutgers, so he got criticized for holding the ball too long when making decisions.

But it’s clearly a skill he has.

TOUGH baseline fadeaway from Lauri Markkanen. You just can’t guard that. He has 10 points on 3/3 shooting.

that turnaround is oppikirja 📚🇫🇮 pic.twitter.com/Ncda3kZ2nW

— Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) October 28, 2025

The Suns’ bench was significantly better than the Jazz’s bench, which we also observed against the Kings.

Also, it’s been tough for Taylor Hendricks to find shots in the offense early in the season.

— Ben Anderson (@BensHoops) October 28, 2025

After one, the @utahjazz lead the @Suns 39-27.

Will Hardy with some words for Filipowski after the timeout. The Suns were targeting him in the paint on offense.

— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 28, 2025

Keyonte just sprinted straight to the cup for two. Beat the defender in the back court and didn’t get picked up the rest of the way. That’s 10 points for him on 50% shooting.

— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 28, 2025

Keyonte George and Walt Clayton both have three fouls halfway through the second quarter. Something to watch.

— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 28, 2025

Walker Kessler finally misses a shot this season, a three that bounced out.

But you can see how softly the ball is landing on the rim, his touch seems to be improving.

— Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) October 28, 2025

On the flip side, I think Ace Bailey would benefit from slowing down a half step.

He can get his shot off whenever he wants, but he’s rushed into a few, and I don’t think it’s allowed him to get into the same rhythm we saw in preseason.

One of the biggest positives for Keyonte George so far this season has been the chemistry he’s developed with Walker and Lauri on offense.

Had much better timing on lobs to make their lives easier. A major reason the Jazz frontcourt has been a bright spot so far.

— Ben Anderson (@BensHoops) October 28, 2025

One of the best things about this Jazz team through three games is that they haven’t let the lows snowball into a blowout. I feel like one of the last two games would’ve been a 20+ point loss for the Jazz.

— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 28, 2025

unlocked that mid-range game 🔓 pic.twitter.com/4P47n5WsMV

— Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) October 28, 2025

Keyonte George has really been terrific tonight.

Again, I think this is the best basketball of his career so far.

He ‘feels’ more like a point guard now, not a two-guard trying to play out of position.

In control, making good decisions, a lot of maturity.

The @suns have tied the game at 125 with 1.9 seconds left.

They won a challenge, a jump ball, and converted a reverse three-point play to get back in this game.

Similar insanity tonight.

The Jazz haven’t had a 50 point game since Karl Malone did it in 1998.

Markkanen has 47 with 2:20 left in OT. He’ll certainly get the opportunity to snap the streak.
