Jimmy Connors Reveals Why Marriage Could be Good for Felix Auger-Aliassime Amid Canadian’s Title Win Following US Open Act

Tennis legend Jimmy Connors shared his thoughts on Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime during the latest episode of his podcast, Advantage Connors. The former World No. 1 analyzed the 25-year-old’s recent performances and offered his perspective on key moments from his 2025 season.

Auger-Aliassime claimed his eighth career title at the Brussels Open on October 19, defeating Jiri Lehecka 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 6-2 in the final. The victory held special significance as it marked his first tournament win as a married man, coming just weeks after he tied the knot with Nina Ghaibi on September 20 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Before his wedding, Auger-Aliassime delivered a phenomenal run at the US Open in September, reaching the semifinals, where he faced World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Canadian’s impressive campaign saw him take down several top players before falling to Sinner in four sets.

Speaking on his podcast, Connors praised the Canadian’s improved level during the tournament. “He worked hard during the US Open, right? We talked about that and getting to the semis. He played pretty damn good in the semis, just not good enough, but his game seemed to have gone to a different level,” Connors noted.

The eight-time Grand Slam champion also acknowledged Auger-Aliassime’s competitive showing against the eventual champion. “And he also played a very good match against Sinner,” Connors added.

Connors then discussed how the Canadian managed to balance his personal life with his professional commitments during this period. “So for him to roll off of that, to take the time, he got married, he has been able to separate all that. He got married, maybe that’s been good for him, that clearly is just fine,” the former champion said.

Connors then shifted to discussing the practical side of professional tennis. “Now he’s back on the drift of the tennis because the tennis is the living, the tennis is what’s gonna make the wife happy. I’m just being honest with you,” he stated frankly, while laughing.

He wrapped up his assessment by emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistent results. “He’s gonna have to go out there, he’s gonna have to produce, and he got to the semis of the US Open, and for him to come through and win a tournament like that,” Connors concluded.

What Did Auger-Aliassime Say About His Wife After Brussels Triumph?

During the trophy presentation ceremony in Brussels, Auger-Aliassime took a moment to acknowledge his wife’s support. “My wife, first tournament as a married man, so I guess it’s good luck. I have to give you some credit,” the Canadian said with a warm smile as Nina watched from courtside.

The 2025 season has been a strong one for Auger-Aliassime, who has climbed back to World No. 12 in the rankings. He captured three titles this year, winning in Adelaide and Montpellier during January before adding the Brussels crown to his collection, sitting with a solid 41-20 win-loss record for the season so far.

His Brussels victory proved crucial for his qualification hopes, propelling him to ninth place in the Race to Turin standings. With 340 points separating him from eighth-placed Lorenzo Musetti, Auger-Aliassime is chasing a spot at the ATP Finals in November, which would mark his second appearance at the prestigious year-end event after his 2022 debut.

The Canadian is currently competing at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where he is seeded fifth. On October 22, he opened his campaign with a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 victory over compatriot Gabriel Diallo in an all-Montreal first-round matchup. Auger-Aliassime now prepares to face Croatian qualifier Marin Čilić in the second round, and every match remains critical as he continues his indoor hard-court swing through Europe in pursuit of securing enough points for Turin.
