Dodgers tab Glasnow to start Game 3 of World Series, Ohtani in Game 4

Staring down a gauntlet, the Toronto Blue Jays got an idea of what their opponents may look like when the World Series shifts to Los Angeles.

The Dodgers will turn to Tyler Glasnow in Monday’s Game 3 and Shohei Ohtani in Tuesday’s Game 4 for the first two games at Chavez Ravine, manager Dave Roberts announced Saturday ahead of Game 2 in Toronto.

Facing off against the Dodgers starters will be Max Scherzer in Game 3 and Shane Bieber in Game 4.

Glasnow has been near untouchable so far in the post-season, pitching to a 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings of work over three appearances (two starts). He has 18 strikeouts and only one earned run to his name.

His last appearance came in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. He gave up one run in 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, three walks and three hits before the Dodgers eventually walked away with a 3-1 win.

He has also appeared out of the bullpen for the Dodgers this fall, pitching 1.2 innings of relief in a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the NLDS.

The one-time All-Star has impressed in his second year in Los Angeles despite dealing with injuries over the season. He put up a 3.19 ERA and a 1.096 WHIP with 106 strikeouts in 18 appearances in the regular season.

Ohtani, meanwhile, last appeared on the mound in a mammoth NLCS Game 4 performance for the three-time MVP. He pitched six innings of shutout ball while striking out 10, walking three and giving up two hits.

More impressive, perhaps, was his work in the batter’s box, as he homered three times to send the Dodgers to a 5-1 win and a series sweep, booking the team’s second-straight World Series appearance.

Overall in the post-season, Ohtani has a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA and 0.750 WHIP in 12 innings over two starts.

After taking a break from pitching in the 2024 season while recovering from elbow surgery, Ohtani has made 14 starts for the Dodgers this year, earning a 2.87 ERA and 1.043 WHIP with 62 strikeouts in 47 innings of work.

Game 2 of the Fall Classic is set for 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, with Kevin Gausman taking the mound for the Blue Jays and Yoshinobu Yamamoto opposite him for the Dodgers.
