Foord assisted by Cooney-Cross in Australia win | International | News

Caitlin Foord scored the winner, assisted by Kyra Cooney-Cross, as Australia beat Wales 2-1 in an international friendly on Saturday.

Both players played 91 minutes of the match, while Steph Catley was an unused subtitute for Joe Montemurro’s Matildas.

Courtney Nevin opened the scoring for Australia in the 28th minute, but Mared Griffiths pulled one back for the hosts at Cardiff City Stadium early in the second half.

Australia took the lead again though when Cooney-Cross’ delivery from the right was cushioned into the roof of the net first time by Foord.

Earlier on Saturday, Sophie Harwood played 90 minutes of England under-19s’ 4-0 win over Greece in Group C of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship qualifiers. The young Lionesses are top of the group with two wins from two.

In the evening, three of our players were involved in England’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Brazil at Etihad Stadium.

The visitors went 2-0 up early on thanks to goals from Bia Zaneratto and Dudinha, but Alessia Russo found Beth Mead early in the second half, who was fouled for a penalty that was scored by Georgia Stanway.

Chloe Kelly played 63 minutes for the Lionesses, while Mead and Russo both got the full 90, with Taylor Hinds an unused substitute. Michelle Agyemang, on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, came on in the 83rd minute.
