Matildas allow 29 shots on goal

That’s a record.

In that aspect, it’s a minor miracle that the Matildas only conceded three.

That being said, England only managed to get nine of those on target.

Australia had three shots, one on target, for the record.

Matildas did well after ‘pretty rough start’: Heatley

Wini Heatley is speaking on Paramount+.

“I think when you go one man down pretty early, it’s a pretty rough start,” she says.

“I think it’s a bummer to have conceded three goals, but I think for the most part we did well with one less player.”

She adds that there were some patches of good possession, which I admit I must have missed.

Kerr ‘felt good’ on continued return from injury

More from Sam Kerr in Derby.

She says that she felt “good” on her continued return from injury, but is still “trying to get 90-minute fit.”

She says that there were still some positives to take from the match.

“The positives are that we stuck together as a team. There’s no finger pointing, we just got on with it,” she says.

“We conceded three, but it’s hard against one of the best teams in the world.”

She adds that the team is excited about Joe Montemurro.

“Joes’ been great. There’s been a lot of demand on the players.

“It’s a journey. We’re gunna have down days like this, but we’ve had a lot of up days.

“Tonight hurts and sucks, but we’re looking forward to the future.”

Sam Kerr: ‘Hard to judge’ Matildas

Sam Kerr is speaking on Paramount+.

“It’s tough to go down to 10 men against a good team like England,” she says.

“We didn’t even get to show what we’d worked on.

“It’s really hard to judge the game because we had such a different plan for the game.

“I thought to only concede one in the second half, that penalty at the end. I felt that was positive.

“But it’s really hard to judge going down to 10 men.

“It’s disappointing.”

FT: England claim 3-0 victory

A sour note for the English, who lose Agyemang late to that serious looking knee injury.

And a sour note for the Matildas with that dubious penalty.

But is ends 3-0 and a thoroughly deserved victory for England.

90+8′ England seal the win

Georgia Stanway didn’t have to send Mackenzie Arnold the wrong way, the Matildas keeper went there all by herself before the kick had been taken.

A solidly struck penalty to seal a 3-0 win for England.

90+7′ Penalty England!

I’m sure by the letter of the law that’s correct, but I can’t believe that’s been given as a penalty.

Gorry did clip Kearns, but the ball was well on its way out of play.

VAR told the referee to have a look though and it was awarded.

Tough one for the Matildas.

90+5′ Great tackle Gorry

Some lovely desperation there from Katrina Gorry who makes a great tackle to deny Kearns.

The Englishwoman goes to ground as she is clipped after the tackle was made, but the ball was out there already.

90+2′ Two late changes for the Matildas

Caitlin Foord is given a yellow card as she walks off the pitch – presumably for dissent?

Jamilla Rankin is on for her. Remy Siemsen is the other player introduced.

90+1′ There will be six additional minutes

As the Matildas threaten again against an England team that has had the steam knocked out of it by Agyemang’s injury.

Raso and Carpenter link up again on the right but can’t formulate anything and the ball finds its way to Arnold.

England thoroughly deserve the victory

England deserves their win, it’s a shame for them that it comes at the cost of two injured players, well after the result is beyond doubt.

– Gin

There is still time for something remarkable to happen, Gin.

But you’re right, anything other than an England victory would frankly be a travesty here.

33m agoTue 28 Oct 2025 at 8:46pm

85′ Chance Australia

Kinda, anyway.

Katrina Gorry is way outside the area and lifts the ball towards goal, the ball ending up high and wide of the target.

It ended a promising move for the Matildas, with Carpenter and Foord enjoying some solid movement and possession over on the far right side of the field.

83′ More injury concerns for England, who will see this out with 10 players

Raso have clattered into Stanway there on the edge of the penalty area.

That was foolish and clumsy.

But the issue is not with Stanway, but with Beever-Jones, who is down and is now walking off the field.

England will play out the rest of this match with 10 players after having made all their substitutes.

82′ Handball Hayley Raso

Raso tried to get away with a handball there as the Matildas attempted to clear their lines.

The whistle went and Raso immediately arced up in disappointment but it was very clearly a handball and she quickly acquiesced.

80′ Agyemang is stretchered off

The youngster gets a standing ovation.

She is holding her head as she is carried off on the stretcher.

That’s tough to see.

Australian fans know all about the pain of seeing one of their best go down with a serious knee injury.

I’m sure we’ll all join together in wishing the teenager well.

Chloe Kelly is the player to replace her.

England had been looking to replace Beever-Jones, who motioned to the sideline after missing that last chance, so not ideal for England.

43m agoTue 28 Oct 2025 at 8:35pm

It’s been very disappointing

This is such a painful match to watch, the Matilda’s are much better than this. Hopefully Joe can iron out the kinks…

– Chris

It has been a really tough watch, Chris.

I think it’s more disappointing than anything else.

The Matildas have set high standards for themselves and they have simply not delivered those standards tonight.

75′ Michelle Agyemang down with a knee injury

Oh no.

The worst possible sight for a football player, Michelle Agyemang is down clutching her knee.

(Getty Images)

The 19-year-old is down and a lot of her teammates have gone over to her.

This would be terrible for the youngster, who has been such a star for England since making her debut just before the Euros.

This is a horrible thing to see and there is obvious concern for Agyemang.

47m agoTue 28 Oct 2025 at 8:32pm

74′ Chance England

This is getting repetitive isn’t it…

Beever-Jones races onto a ball on the edge of the penalty area and sends a stinging low drive towards goal.

She was off balance as she shot and didn’t get enough power to get it past Arnold, who did bobble is slightly.
