Bake Off fans slam ‘car crash’ challenge as semi-finalists all have disaster

The semi-final challenge proved to be too difficult for all of the bakers left in the Channel 4 competition.

Fans of Great British Bake Off have branded one of its latest challenges a “car crash” after none of the contestants managed to pull it off.
Tuesday night’s instalment of the Channel 4 baking show (October 28) saw semi-finalists Aaron, Jasmine, Toby and Tom tackling Patisserie Week. While they whizzed through the Signature round, with all of them serving up decent pastries, the Technical ended in disaster, with none of the four managing to serve up the dessert that judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith had asked for.
The pair wanted the bakers to create a framboisier with pistachio creme mousseline and with a sugar dome on top. However, they all struggled with the creamy cake, with filling oozing out over the plates.
“This is the most complicated technical of the competition so far,” announced Alison Hammond, who hosts the show with Noel Fielding.

The delicate sugar dome proved tricky to pull off, with all of the bakers struggling. Aaron managed a misty one which he placed on his cake, and while Tom did make one it smashed as he was handling it. He, Jasmine and Toby all ended up presenting their puddings without it on top.
Paul and Prue could barely contain their giggles as they surveyed the table of desserts in front of them.
Viewers were less than impressed too, with many declaring the challenge was too difficult.

“Every single SEMI FINALIST completely messing up the technical just goes to show how stupidly difficult and fast the producers make these challenges!!!!!” one person posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“That’s the first car crash Technical ever,” mused another.
Someone else wrote: “What a dreadful Technical challenge, stupid idea to even do it.”
Another commented: “As a Showstopper that would be ridiculous. As a Technical? I’m sorry, no home baker could do that. Kudos to those in the tent.”
Prue and Paul’s latest Technical challenge was a tough one
“What a ridiculous Technical to expect them to make,” remarked somebody else, adding: “I think one of the worst.”
One viewer suggested: “For the Technical challenge on #GBBO I think the judges should have to make it at the same time, then they prove it can be done in the time!”
Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.
