The Stath is currently filming the hotly anticipated follow up to The Beekeeper with The Night Comes for Us director Timo Tjahjanto at the helm, but we’ve got some welcomed breaking news on the action star’s upcoming film Mutiny. Lionsgate has unveiled, via Deadline, that Jason Statham’s signature skills will be unleashed next summer.
According to the report, Lionsgate will release Mutiny in theaters on August 21st to officially end the summer going movie season for 2026 and what a way to go then with a bang and not a whimper. This actually will be the second film from Statham to hit in 2026 as it was announced some weeks earlier that another action pic of his titled Shelter will hit theaters on January 30th via Black Bear.
Mutiny, which is directed by Jean-François Richet, follows the plotline of “after witnessing his billionaire boss’s murder and being framed for the crime, Cole Reed (Statham) boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss’ death only to discover an international conspiracy.” Expect mass damage and casualties galore courtesy of one of the best in action cinema today.
Mutiny also stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius, Jason Wong, and Adrian Lester. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis penned the screenplay and Marc Butan and Statham sefved as producers on the action project.
It’s no secret that Statham and Lionsgate have shared a very lucrative relationship over the last few decades with the star headlining several films for the company including The Expendables franchise, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, The Transporter franchise, The Bank Job, and The Crank films.
This film was actually going to premiere in January of 2026, but it looks like his other film Shelter took advantage of the switch in dates to deliver their Jason Statham film a full eight months earlier. It’s all good though because we have two Statham joints to look forward to in 2026 and it could quite possibly be three if Tjahjanto’s The Beekeeper 2 hits at the end of the year. I feel that the sequel will most likely hit in early 2027 like the first film did.
