Los Angeles Dodgers win 18-inning game against Toronto Blue Jays to lead World Series

The Dodgers lead the World Series 2-1 heading into Game 4

With an instant World Series classic, the Dodgers have a 2-1 championship lead over the Blue Jays. Freeman’s walk-off homer at the bottom of the 18th inning means the game is tied for the longest in World Series history, as far as innings go.

The Dodgers started the game strong, with solo home runs by Teoscar Hernández and Shohei Ohtani giving the home team a 2-0 lead at Dodger Stadium. Toronto came back to score four in a strong fourth inning, with a three-run home run from Alejandro Kirk and a sacrifice fly from Andrés Giménez driving in a run.

Freeman tied it up 4-4 in the fifth with a single after an RBI double from Ohtani. Bichette snatched the lead back with a single in the seventh, but the Dodgers’ All-Star tied it again 5-5 with his second solo home run of the night.

Nobody would score again for 11 innings – not for lack of chances – until Freeman’s big moment at the bottom of the record-tying 18th.

The two teams will be back at Dodger Stadium for Game 4 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.

We’ll have live coverage of that game at cbc.ca/news.
