“The House is aware that in 1999, owing to the deteriorating nature of the highway, the Federal Executive Council approved the total rehabilitation of the highway and as such the project was awarded for execution.
“The House is alarmed that the road remains in deplorable conditions, inhibiting free flow of traffic with attendant consequences on socio-economic activities of the areas.
“The House is disturbed that the dilapidated state of the road is aiding criminal activities such as robbery and other criminal vices.
“The House is cognizant that a good number of people in the affected areas are agrarians, thereby routinely making use of the road to convey farm produce and cattle to various parts of the nation for market purposes.
“The House is concerned that, at a moment vibrant weekly markets in the aforementioned towns have now become significantly degraded due to the bad condition of the road.
“The House is also concerned that the continued neglect of the road has adverse effects on rev enue generation both to government and private farmers alike, including the loss of lives and perpetuation of criminality on the road which will continue unabated.”
To this end, the House urged Ecological Office of the Federation to address failed portion of the roads in Sara, Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
Hence, the House mandated the joint Committees on Legislative Compliance and Works to ensure compliance.
