From “The Witcher” to the bewitched: Liam Hemsworth is feeling the magic of new love.

The Emmy-nominated actor and ex-husband of pop star Miley Cyrus opened up about his engagement to Australian model Gabriella Brooks during an interview on the “Today” show Monday, Oct. 27. Speculation about the newly engaged couple emerged last month after Brooks, 29, shared a photo of herself and Hemsworth on Instagram, which showed Brooks wearing a diamond ring.

“I’m incredibly excited,” Hemsworth, 35, told “Today” host Savannah Guthrie when asked about the pair’s romantic milestone.

Hemsworth’s upcoming marriage to Brooks will mark his second walk down the aisle. “The Witcher” star married Cyrus, whom he met on the 2010 film “The Last Song,” in December 2018. Less than a year later, Hemsworth filed for divorce in August 2019, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

While Hemsworth stayed mum about his proposal to Brooks, he clarified to Guthrie that the engagement did not take place in the Maldives, despite photos circulating on social media.

“We went there recently. I finished shooting about three weeks ago and went straight to a tropical island and let my hair down, or took my hair off,” Hemsworth joked, referencing his “Witcher” character’s long, white hair. “But no, we’re super excited. It’s a happy time in life.”

What Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus have said about divorce

A week before filing for divorce in August 2019, Hemsworth broke his silence on his split from Cyrus on Instagram, confirming their breakup and wishing the Grammy-winning singer “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

“The Hunger Games” star noted that their separation was “a private matter” that he wouldn’t address with “any journalists or media outlets.”

However, one day after Hemsworth’s divorce filing, Cyrus took to social media to set the record straight on the dissolution of their marriage. The “Used to Be Young” songstress denied rumors that she had cheated on Hemsworth, adding: “I’ve said it before, and it remains true: I love Liam and always will.”

Hemsworth and Cyrus finalized their divorce in January 2020, according to People magazine. The couple shared no children.

In a December 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus opened up about her relationship with Hemsworth and her dark state of mind amid their marital troubles.

“A couple of years ago, it looked like I was living some fairy tale. It really wasn’t,” Cyrus told the magazine. “At that time, my experimentation with drugs and booze and the circle of people around me was not fulfilling or sustainable or ever going to get me to my fullest potential and purpose.”

Regarding her relationship with Hemsworth, Cyrus discussed how she felt the media fixated on her relationship status as a possible indicator of her personal stability.

“‘She’s got a man. She’s living in a house playing wife,'” Cyrus said. “Dude, I was way more off my path at that time than any of the times before where my sanity was being questioned.”
