Cam Coleman Transferring To The Ohio State Buckeyes

If you follow college football closely, you know the name Cam Coleman. However, if you’re not super familiar with the name, it’s because Auburn is holding him back with its poor team-level performance.

On the surface, Coleman looks like a good but not great wide receiver. He has 37 catches for 474 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

When you turn on the tape, though, the sophomore wide receiver is far from average. At just 19 years old, Coleman shows unreal body control to pair with fantastic athleticism at 6’3” and 201 lbs.

Given the state of the Tigers’ program, it would make perfect sense for Coleman to transfer to Ohio State next season.

This is a prediction, not a report.

Why Would Cam Coleman Transfer?

There are a number of reasons why Coleman would leave Auburn, but one of them is the quarterback situation. Simply put, Jackson Arnold has been extremely disappointing. Countless times Coleman has been limited by Arnold’s poor quarterback play.

Not only that, but Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze was recently fired.

With poor quarterback play and turnover within the coaching staff, it seems highly unlikely that Auburn will be able to retain Coleman.

This isn’t some crazy idea, either. Media outlets across the country are also beginning to discuss Coleman potentially leaving the Tigers.

Chris Hummer of CBS Sports wrote, “They might encounter a difficult sell… Yes, Auburn is 45 minutes from home. But Coleman is entering his money year… But he needs to put together a strong year of tape as a junior to solidify that positioning, and the surest way to do is to pair with an elite, proven quarterback.”

Cam Coleman Joining Ohio State

Now, the argument for why Coleman shouldn’t join Ohio State is simple. Coleman wouldn’t even be the WR1, as Jeremiah Smith is still there.

The counter for that is simply to look at Carnell Tate. Few wide receivers in the upcoming draft class have skyrocketed as much as Tate, who is in the same situation that Coleman would be stepping into.

The Ohio State WR2 role with Julian Sayin at the helm, who’s only going to look better in year two, is valuable.

Tate is 6’3” and 195 lbs, which is similar to Coleman. You can make an argument that Coleman is like Tate, but even better and more versatile.

The final selling point is money. The Buckeyes feature one of the largest NIL funds in the nation, and they should be able to make Coleman an offer that makes a move to Columbus worthwhile.

After outlining everything, it seems clear that Coleman, at the very least, needs to transfer away from Auburn for his 2026 season. Assuming that is the case, Ohio State makes a ton of sense.

Cam Coleman Stats

We touched on Coleman’s stats briefly above, but let’s look at what he did as a freshman as well. Given Coleman’s age, he was impressive as a freshman as well.

Coleman played in 11 games in 2024, where he had 37 catches for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.

Cam Coleman 247 Profile

Going back to the kind of prospect that Coleman was, here’s a recap of his 247 page. Coleman was a five-star prospect who was the number two wide receiver in his class.

The only player ahead of him? Jeremiah Smith. One of the more notable players behind him was Ryan Williams, who has now become a household name in college football.
