Bo Nix’s interception might have been the result of a botched no-look pass

After the Denver Broncos opened Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys with a seven-yard J.K. Dobbins run and an 11-yard completion to Evan Engram, Bo Nix turned the ball over on their third play of the game.
Nix threw a pass intended for wide receiver Pat Bryant, but it was intercepted by Cowboys defensive back Trikweze Bridges. The pass was thrown so far behind Bryant that fans and pundits wondered if Nix and the receiver were not on the same page about the route.
“His feet got away from him a little bit,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of the turnover after an eventual 44-24 win. “He bounced right back. He was magnificent. He was outstanding.”
Upon further review, it appears that Nix might have been attempting a no-look pass.
You can judge for yourself:
Nix, as Payton stated, bounced right back. He finished the game 19-of-29 passing for 247 yards with four touchdowns.
“It was awesome,” Engram said of Nix’s performance. “Guys miss shots and he had — he missed a shot early, [then] he responded really well. I think that’s what makes him who he is. There’s going to be adversity, there’s going to be bad plays. How do you respond, and he did just that tonight.”
Nix was asked after the game about bouncing back after the turnover.
“I just owe it to the team,” Nix said. “You cannot go into a shell for the rest of the game. That is not going to do anybody any good, including myself. I definitely was not happy about it, but what can I do, go back and change it? I have to move forward. I can only change the future and go make the plays in front of me. That is what we did.”
Nix has completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,803 yards with 15 touchdowns against five interceptions through eight games this fall. He also has 171 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. This week, Nix will face the Houston Texans, who have allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards (178.4) and fewest points (14.7) per game this season. The second-year QB would probably be wise to table the no-look passes in Week 9.
