South African captain Laura Wolvaardt has added another accolade to her impressive career by equalling former Indian captain Mithali Raj’s record for the most 50+ scores at the Women’s World Cup.
Raj, who retired after the 2022 ODI World Cup, amassed 13 scores of 50 or more in the 50-over World Cup. Wolvaardt, who was nearing this milestone, has now matched Raj’s record by achieving her 13th 50+ score during the team’s semifinal match against England at Barsapara Stadium.

The 26-year-old recorded three half-centuries during the group stages of the ongoing 2025 Women’s World Cup and secured her fourth 50+ score this season in the knockout game against England on Wednesday.

In the match, England won the toss and chose to bowl first. Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings and surprised the opposition bowlers with their impressive strokeplay. The Nat Sciver-Brunt-led team struggled to make the first breakthrough as the pair formed a substantial 116-run partnership.
However, Sophie Ecclestone made a strong comeback by claiming two wickets in just four deliveries, significantly impacting South Africa’s batting lineup. Brits and Anneke Bosch were dismissed in the 23rd over, and captain Sciver-Brunt secured another wicket by dismissing Sune Luus in the 26th over.
Despite the setbacks, Wolvaardt continued to lead the innings, with South Africa reaching 192/4 in 37 overs at the time of this report.
