PREVIEW

Afghanistan will look to turn its fortunes around in the shortest format when it takes on Zimbabwe in the first of three T20 Internationals at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.

After failing to go past the group stage of the Asia Cup in September, the Afghans were blanked by Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series earlier this month. The Rashid Khan-led team’s batting has struggled in particular and was one of the main reasons Afghanistan lost to Bangladesh recently. It managed middling scores of 151, 147 and 143 in the three games, and the Tigers chased down these totals with relative ease.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be buoyed by its massive innings-victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test that preceded the T20I series, and will hope to continue the winning momentum. The team is coming off an unbeaten run spanning five matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region qualifier and a 2-1 T20I series win over Namibia.

Like Afghanistan, Zimbabwe will be led by its star spin-bowling all-rounder Sikandar Raza in the T20I series.
