Residents in Port Colbourne asked to keep doors locked as suspect sought in weapons incident: police

Residents in Port Colbourne are being asked to stay inside and keep their doors locked while officers search for a suspect believed to be involved in a “possible weapons incident,” Niagara Regional Police say.

In a news release, police said they received information Wednesday about a possible weapons incident east of the Welland Canal and south of Durham Street.

“Several uniform officers and members of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) attended and have contained the incident to an address on Fares Street north of Louis Street and a second address on Mitchell Street between Nickel Street and Decew Street,” police said in the written release.

“At this time, police are asking residents in the area to remain inside and lock their doors until the suspect has been apprehended.”

Police also asked parents with children in the area to drive their children directly to school or keep them home “out of an abundance of caution.”

Police said the investigation is still “active” and it is too early to provide more details of the incident.

More information will be provided when details are confirmed, police added.
