Person found on busy railway line that was closed for hours pronounced dead

All lines were closed between Abergavenny and Hereford as emergency services dealt with the incident

A person has died after being discovered on the tracks of a busy Welsh railway line on Tuesday evening. The incident took place near Pontrilas, Herefordshire, just after 4.15pm. We reported how all lines were closed between Abergavenny and Hereford as emergency services responded to the incident.

Replacement bus services were put on for affected passengers as Transport for Wales apologised for the inconvenience caused. The routes affected were between Cardiff Central and Abergavenny / Chester / Crewe / Hereford / Holyhead / Manchester Piccadilly, also between Carmarthen / Fishguard Harbour / Milford Haven / Pembroke Dock and Manchester Piccadilly.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 4.15pm yesterday (October 28) near Pontrilas, Herefordshire.

“Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased.

“The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
