The Utah Mammoth have signed forward Logan Cooley to an eight-year contract extension, carrying an annual average value of $10 million per season, the team announced Wednesday.

According to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, the contract does not have any bonuses and is the third-richest contract signed by a player coming out of an entry-level deal.

8 x $10M AAV for Cooley. The contract does not include any signing bonus money. It’s heavily front-loaded but all salary. It’s the third-highest contract coming out of entry level in NHL history. https://t.co/UFjzKPJc7A

“I’m excited to sign an eight-year extension with the Mammoth. Choosing to play with this group of teammates was the easiest part of this decision, and living in Utah has been amazing since day one,” Cooley said via team statement. “The atmosphere at the Delta Center in front of our fans is unreal and (owners) Ryan and Ashley Smith have given our team every resource to succeed, which is all you can ask for as a player.

“We have an opportunity to do something special here, thanks to the incredible people in the organization. This is an awesome day for me and my family, and I am proud to commit to the state of Utah and to the Mammoth.”

Cooley, 21, was drafted No. 3 by the Arizona Coyotes at the 2022 NHL Draft. He played his rookie season in 2023-24 with the Coyotes before the franchise moved to Utah the following season. The Pittsburgh native has scored 53 goals and notched 121 points in 168 career games, including eight goals and 12 points in 11 games this season with the Mammoth.

Cooley was also part of the United States’ gold medal-winning team at the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Sweden and Denmark this past spring.

The Mammoth are 8-3-0 to start the season.
