An Post is proposing to amalgamate the Barnatra postal sorting office into a new central facility on Ballina’s Killala road, in the spring of next year.
A purpose-designed sorting facility was built in 2019 in Barnatra, to service the 13 postmen and post-women who cover the Erris region.
Mayo Sinn Fein Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh attended a meeting earlier this morning in Barnatra, where workers aired their concerns.
She has described the move as “crazy”, with workers set to complete a 100-mile round trip everyday between Ballina and the Erris region, on what she calls a “bad and dangerous road”, if the move goes ahead.
