‘BMF’ Canceled At Starz After 4 Seasons

Starz has canceled its drama series BMF after four seasons.
What is now its final season premiered in June and concluded with its 10th episode, “Dreams Deferred,” on August 15. While the series finale buttons up a lot of the drama for the Flenory brothers, there was a cliffhanger with Big Meech (Demetrius Flenory Jr) getting arrested by Detective Von Bryant (Steve Harris). However, the series is based on the real-life Black Mafia Family, with founders Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (played by Da’Vinci) at the center of the story, and their lives can be researched for further details on how their stories continued. Flenory is played by his real-life son in BMF.
Back in March, we reported that a fifth season of the hit crime drama was still in contention. Sources close to production said at the time that Starz “is pleased with Season 4 creatively” and is “looking forward to sharing new action-packed episodes with fans.”
While the network touted the show’s ratings across its run, a point of contention, we understand, was the declining relationship between executive producer Curtis “50” Jackson and the real-life Big Meech that stems back to 2001, when the latter was released from jail. At the time, Jackson accused Big Meech of having been a federal informant, an accusation Flenory vehemently denied. The relationship further fell apart when Flenory appeared in a promo alongside Rick Ross, Jackson’s longtime rival. Their beef about the above, among other issues, often played out to broad audiences across social media platforms.

We hear the feud was not the reason for the show’s cancellation. However, it did cause anxiety on the set of the third and fourth seasons as cast and crew wondered how long the show could continue, sources close to production revealed.
The likely reason for the show’s end stems back to Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch’s comments back in March, when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive. Their “Power” franchise shows have been concluding, with plans for new shows revealed, including the prequel Power: Origins, which was picked up to series in July, and the development of a present timeline spinoff, Power: Legacy (w/t).

Back in 2023, Jackson confirmed plans to expand BMF into a universe, which he dubbed “BMF Immortal.” At the time, sources told Deadline that the network is invested in Jackson, who has a proven track record as a producer who resonates with audiences in a big way. Their collaborations continue to bring in solid viewership numbers, so Starz and Curtis’ G-Unit Film & TV will continue to look for ways to expand the storytelling.
While no new BMF Universe shows have been announced to date, Jackson’s dealings with Starz continue through the “Power” franchise, which remains a fan favorite, and the new British boxing drama series Fightland, which was picked up to series in June.
Starz and Jackson did collaborate on the release of the companion docuseries, The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast, in 2022, which was renewed for a second season in June. The project, featuring an exclusive interview with Terry Flenory, has yet to confirm a premiere date.
BMF Season 4 continued the journey inspired by real-life street legends and brothers, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, who created one of the most influential crime families in the country, Black Mafia Family. The season follows Meech and Terry’s fight to keep their American Dream alive, staying ahead of their rivals, and law enforcement takes a toll on their relationship. The brothers occasionally put aside their differences for their common goals, but what happened in Mexico will change them forever.
The cast also includes Russell Hornsby as Charles Flenory, Michole Briana White as Lucille Flenory, La La Anthony as Markisha, Steve Harris as Detective Bryant, and Myles Truitt as B-Mickie.
The series is executive-produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through his G-Unit film and television, alongside creator, executive producer, and Detroit native Randy Huggins, with showrunner and executive producer Heather Zuhlke. Anthony Wilson, Damione Macedon, and Raphael Jackson, Jr., also EP. BMF is produced through Jackson’s G-Unit Film and Television with Lionsgate Television for Starz.
