Twenty-Seven Years of Service and Not Even a Thank You

For a team that never misses a chance to shout about ‘a club like no other’, Celtic’s silence over John Kennedy’s exit is deafening.

After 27 years of loyal service, as player, coach, assistant and everything in between, Kennedy slipped quietly out the back door this week alongside Brendan Rodgers. No mention in the statement. No tribute. Not even a token tweet.

It’s a stunning lack of class from a club that prides itself on history and respect.

This is a man who’s been part of every chapter of Celtic’s modern story, from Martin O’Neill’s glory days to Ange Postecoglou’s resurgence.

Kennedy’s playing career was cruelly cut short by injury, but instead of walking away, he devoted his life to the club. He rebuilt himself behind the scenes, guiding generations of players and holding things together during some of Celtic’s toughest spells.

And yet, when the time came for goodbye, there wasn’t so much as a public thank-you.

Even Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney made sure to tip their hat to him yesterday. But from the boardroom? Not a peep.

It might not seem a big deal to some, but gestures matter.

For Kennedy to be ushered out without acknowledgement feels, frankly, wrong.

Celtic talk a lot about tradition. But right now, the way they’ve handled this doesn’t feel like the Celtic way.

A simple farewell would’ve cost nothing, and meant everything.
